With the growth of many eco conscious movements and initiatives, we’re starting to see an increase in the number of eco-orientated events taking place each year. This year, in particular, has much in store for the self-proclaimed tree-huggers and earth warriors. Here’s a brief glimpse at the different eco events you can look out for this new year.
Reforest Fest Family Weekend

Where is it happening? Platbos Indigenous Forest, Hermanus.
When is it taking place? 15-17 March.
What is it all about? The Reforest Fest is the perfect eco event to attend if you are looking for some entertaining, earth-friendly activities for you and your family. Tree-planting, educational workshops, games, body art, crafting, delicious food and so much more will be taking place within the stunning backdrop of the Platbos Forest.
The Eco Film Festival

Where is it happening? The Labia Theatre, Cape Town.
When is it taking place? Late March (date TBC).
What is it all about? You can expect an exciting line up of some of South Africa’s best films in the eco film industry. Issues such as climate change, pollution, food security and urban gardening are addressed within each film, and at the end of it all audience members get to vote for their favourite flick and help determine who will win the Audience Choice Award.
The Eco Tent At The Hermanus Whale Festival

Where is it happening? Hermanus, Western Cape (Get Directions).
When is it taking place? 27-29 September.
What is it all about? Hermanus is perhaps one of the best spots to see Southern Right Whales. And during whale-spotting season, this small town comes alive with festivities that are centred around these awe-inspiring sea creatures. One of these festivities includes the Eco-Marine Tent, which provides an informative and interactive exhibitions to educate kids and adults alike on the preservation of our ocean wildlife.
Outdoor Eco Adventure Travel Family Festival

Where is it happening? Bryanston, Johannesburg
When is it taking place? 25 – 27 October 2019.
What is it all about? The outdoor eco adventure and travel expo provides the discerning outdoor enthusiasts with a day out exploring the latest and greatest outdoor adventure offerings – from places to travel to outdoor products and accessories and eco workshops all in a family friendly environment.
